Beyonce Pregnant

There has been rumor after rumor that Beyonce is pregnant, and not one of them have been true.

But is it true this time? Is Beyonce really pregnant with Jay-Z’s baby? Us Magazine says, yes, the rumors of the pregnancy are true this time. If the source is to be believed Beyonce, 29, is in her first trimester of the pregnancy.

The source told the magazine that the pregnancy wasn’t planned: “B was shocked. She loves kids, but she wasn’t ready to be a mother just yet. She really wanted to get her album done and tour the world again.”

Jay-Z”s good friend and record executive Kevin Liles told Us: “Jay has been all about family since I met him, and he’s always going to be. I wish them the best.”

It would be odd for Mr. Liles to comment unless Beyonce really was pregnant, no?

If Beyonce really is pregnant this would be her and Jay-Z’s first child. Beyonce’s sister, Solange, has a 6-year old boy, Julez, who would be a cousin to the child.

Short Hairstyles Have a Long History in Fashion - Try One!

Think Audrey Hepburn
Short hairstyles, like most styles, come in and out of fashion regularly, but they usually spend more time "in" than out.
Recently, a long layered hair style was at the forefront of the beauty industry, but more recently, women have once again embraced the freedom and surprising versatility of short hairstyles.
If you look at a picture of short hairstyles from the 1920's, you'll see that the hair is "marcelled." This was a process by which women's hairstyle was coaxed into tight, head-hugging waves. But if you look at a picture of short hairstyles from the 60's, you'll see that the women's hairstyle of that era was straight...often rolled on giant coffee cans to achieve the right effect.
The decision to trade in a long-layered hair style for one of the new short hairstyles should be one that any woman makes with the help of her stylist.
Many women choose short hairstyles to add height...something that is especially becoming when middle-age creeps in and things begin to "sag" all over. However, rather than short hairstyles, it's often true that an updo hair style is a better way to achieve "lift" and height.
Another "plus" about the new short hairstyles is that they can easily be "lengthened" temporarily by the addition of weaves, braids, and hairpieces. It's easy to change your hip 2004 hairstyle into retro 80's hair style with just a few hair products...and then change back to your regular short hairstyle.
To help your stylist select one of the new short hairstyles that would be best for you, be sure to bring any photo of the 2004 hairstyle that you've seen that "captures" what you'd like to achieve.

Fashion Must-Haves This Winter

I found myself doing the unthinkable the other day. I got out of the shower, looked at the clothes I had laid out for myself the night before, and then went straight for a sweatsuit. Fortunately, my oldest daughter, Kelsey, came in when I was getting dressed.
"No, Mama," she said. "You are not going to go 'sweatsuit' on me."
She was right. I put away the sweatsuit and instead got dressed in the leggings, sweaterdress, and boots I had laid out the night before. Winter has a way of driving us into hibernation. All we want to do is just cuddle up in our flannels with a cup of cocoa. Well, I am NOT one to downplay the magic of flannels and cocoa, but I also know there is a time and a place for everything. With a mom's busy life, we need to save the flannels and the sweatsuits for a lazy Saturday or maybe in the evenings when we cuddle up on the sofa with a good book (or a good husband). But for our work days--which is practically every day--we need to dress like we mean business. As a rule, your productivity level matches your wardrobe choices. I know it's winter, but don't 'go sweatsuit' on me. Instead, try out these fashion must-haves for the chilly season.
Boots--You've got to have a pair! I'm not talking heels, here. I'm talking about stable, fashionable boots that are comfortable. Boots that you can wear all day and do laundry, change diapers, dust furniture, and take out the trash. I have one brown pair and one black pair that I practically live in during the winter. One I got from Land's End four years ago and they are still holding up just fine and the other I got from T.J.Maxx at a ridiculously low price. You don't have to have a ton of boots, just two or three pairs that will take you through the winter in high style.
Leggings--It looks like the 80s are back; and there's not much we can do about it. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Leggings are a super inexpensive way to supplement your wardrobe. Plus, they are stretchy, so they are very forgiving after that holiday meal splurge. Get some solid, basic colors that you can wear under skirts and dresses. If you are wearing them with boots, it's a good idea to make sure your hemline is above your knee. It looks a lot more streamlined and stylish. You can also go for jeggings (leggings that look like jeans) and wear them under casual dresses or long shirts.
Jacket--Even if it's just a run to the store, don't wear that big, fat hoodie. Instead, opt for a nice, heavy coat that pulls an entire outfit up to the next level. I have a solid, black pea coat that I got from Old Navy a couple of years ago when they were all half price at the end of the season. I wear it everywhere. A nice coat looks sharp and doesn't have to break the bank.
Cardigans--These are one of my biggest go-to fashion staples. I always throw one over a t-shirt and skirt or button up a long one over leggings. These are definitely essential. They can turn a simple t-shirt and blue jeans into a trendy outfit. Get some basic colors and add them to your outfits to push the style up to the next notch.
Dresses--I still can't understand why more moms don't wear dresses. I practically LIVE in them. They are stylish, easy, and comfortable. I'm not talking about dowdy dresses, here, so put away the denim jumpers. I'm talking about fashionable dresses, and there are plenty of them out there. Next time you are out shopping, by pass the sweatpants and head over to the racks of casual dresses. You will probably pay about the same price, but make such a bigger fashion statement.
Just to tell you how easy it is to dress stylishly, let me tell you a quick story from my own life. One morning, I was feeling especially frumpy. I had a cold and I didn't even feel like taking a shower. I wanted to stay in my jammies, but instead, I reached in my closet and pulled out on of my most comfy, casual dresses. I pulled all my (unwashed) hair back in a bun and stuck a rhinestone headband on top. Then I pulled a long, jeweled, necklace out of my jewelry box and threw it on with some dangling earrings. When I went to pick up my daughter from her class, a mom came up to me in a sweatsuit and said, "Oh my goodness! What's the occasion? You look all dressed up and pretty." I just smiled and said, "Nothing, really, just a great day to be a mom." What she didn't know is that I totally felt "sweatsuit" inside but was just as comfortable in my dress and jewelry as I would have been if I had opted for the sweatsuit. It doesn't take much, it just takes practice. Try taking that little extra measure today. It's worth it!

Fashion Model Portfolios - Avoiding Scams and Disreputable Agencies

Many young women either dream of a career as a fashion model or are approached by others who suggest it. Sometimes young women are approached directly in the street or are attracted by advertisements inviting them to 'free auditions'. Often these are merely a front for disreputable agencies and photographers whose only aim is to sell photographs and services that do nothing to help these young people into the modelling business.
If you want a personal portfolio as a record of how beautiful you truly are, capturing you at the peak of your youth, then a responsible portrait photographer will be happy to take stunning images for you and your family to treasure.
But if you want photographs to get into modelling work, note right now that you do not need professional photographs. That may surprise you but this is based on our work with a top London modelling agency, who kindly offered advice which we hope you find useful in making a decision about whether or not you want to have professional photos taken for a portfolio.
If in the end, you still want a professional photographer to take the required shots, then that is a personal decision rather than one being imposed by a scam agency.
So, how do these disreputable agencies operate?
Firstly, they exploit the dreams of hundreds of young hopefuls who attempt to break into the fashion industry each year. But it is not as easy as some so called 'model agencies' would have you believe.
Young people are approached directly in the street or respond to adverts purportedly searching for 'models'. When they have turned up for 'auditions' it turns out that the 'model agency' is nothing more than a photography company who want to charge them large sums of money for photographs which may be lovely to have, but are never going to help them find work as models in magazines, catalogues or as extras in film and TV adverts.
These disreputable agencies persuade girls to part with their money by promising them that the photos taken will get them recruited by top agencies with high returns and lifestyle. Some of these 'agencies' promise to promote the model, but unfortunately the only communication they receive is a bill asking for more money to keep their details on record.
They will tell girls of all shapes and sizes that they are guaranteed work and the end result is a lot of very disappointed girls who have learnt a hard lesson and are out of pocket too.
So, what do reputable model agencies expect?
Most model agents will politely say 'no thank you' if you are under 5ft 8in (173cm). Our contact said that she sees hundreds of would be models 'totter in' on very high heels saying they're 5ft 8in, when they are nowhere near and the conversation ends there.
She said that she knows it sounds harsh, but if you are less than 5ft 8 then forget it. Some model agencies may say shorter girls get lots of catalogue work but it's just not the case.
So if you are 5ft 8in (or over) this is what you need to know:
  • You only need three photos in most cases!
  • They must all be colour. Black and white or sepia 'arty' shots are no good, as agencies want to look at your hair colour and skin tones
  • You need two head shots - one of which must full face with the other showing your profile
  • You need one full length photo
  • The photos do not need to be professionally taken. Most compact cameras are more than capable (see below for more information)
  • Do not plaster on the makeup. In fact make-up should be minimal and natural looking
  • Wear simple clothes such as jeans and a vest top.
  • Avoid bulky bomber jackets or big shapeless jumpers - they need to see your shape
  • If you have tattoos, don't worry unnecessarily, as many models have them and they can be 'art-brushed' out. However some of the more discerning clients do state 'no tattoos'.

We asked our contact if there was any other nugget she could offer and she said "yes, make it crystal clear that they must be over 5ft 8 !!!"What to do if you are 'Scouted'
Many top model agencies still scout because it's a good way of bringing fresh faces into the industry so they are often on the look out for tall girls. Our contact always carries a few business cards and will approach suitable girls. She keeps the conversation very short insofar she tells them that they are tall enough to model etc. She then hands over her cards and asks the girls to phone her if interested. She also asks how old they are and if under 16 she asks them to give the card to a parent together with an explanatory leaflet.
And that's it! Reputable scouts do not offer to take your photos and do not offer to sell them to you.
How to tell if the agent who has scouted you or the advert in the paper is genuine?
In the UK, you can contact the Association of Model Agents at 122 Brompton Road, London SW3 1JD Tel: 020 7564 6466. Send a stamped addressed envelope for information and they will send you a list of agencies who abide the industry code of practice.
Outside the UK, we suggest you find a similar regulating organisation and contact them to ensure the agency you use is reputable.
Our advice is...
  • Always check out the credentials of model agencies and companies which you approach or who contact you.
  • Always be suspicious of agencies which ask for up front fees.
  • Remember that reputable agencies never offer to take your photos or charge you for doing so.

Taking those portfolio photographs with your amateur camera
The three photos required by most agencies are:
  • Head shot from the front (full face)
  • Head shot from the side (profile)
  • Full body shot
The best way to achieve these with your amateur camera is to:
  • Avoid taking the photos inside with flash as this give a harsh unflattering effect - better to get outside on a cloudy day or take them in shade.
  • Select a neutral rather than a busy background. Green plant foliage is a good choice.
  • If you camera has a zoom, tend towards the 'tele' setting rather than 'wide' which can distort facial features.
  • Try to get some distance between the subject and the background so that your subject is sharp and background less so.
We hope this has helped you. We are not trying to pour water on anyone's burning ambitions but want our clients and others to be aware of the pitfalls.

Beauty Salon Industry Suffering?

Times are Tough... says Julianne Gegenheimer of Sugarland, Texas. Julianne is just one of the several salon owner across the country struggling in this economy. She can not seem to compete with the new trend of clients self maintaining their image with store bought hair colors and at-home hair cuts to save that bi-weekly visit to the salon.
Hearing this, I decided to write a few options for the salon owner to maintain business in this recession. I will go over the obvious and not so obvious form of advertising that will cost little to nothing at all.
1. Do Not Advertise Like A Large Salon or Spa
Large salons advertise to create name recognition and future sales. A smaller salon can't afford to do that. One way to accomplish this is to always include an offer on beauty servicse or products in your advertising campaigns.
2. Offer a Cheaper Hair Services
Some prospective customers are not willing to pay the asking price for your product or service. Others are more interested in paying a low price than in getting the best quality. You can avoid losing sales to many of these customers by offering a smaller or stripped down version of your product or service at a lower price.
3. Offer a Premium Salon Service or Product
Not all customers are looking for a cheap price. Many are willing to pay a higher price to get a premium product or service. You can boost your average salons sale and your total revenue by offering a more comprehensive beauty products or services ...or by combining several beauty products or services in a special premium package offer for a higher price.
4. New Marketing Methods
Look for some unconventional marketing methods your competitors are overlooking. You may discover some highly profitable ways to generate sales and avoid competition. Ex. Carry a hair care line no one else carries but has demand.
6. Joint Promotions with Other Small Businesses
You can offer to publicize their products or services to your customers in exchange for their publicizing your beauty and salon servibes to their customers. This typically can produce a large number of sales if you choose a business that corresponds to your market.
